Since its inception in 1996, Renaissance Redding has donated over $250,000 to the Redding community.  Fundraising efforts along with countless volunteer hours have made a significant difference in downtown Redding.  Community partners include Viva Downtown, Shasta County Arts Council, Turtle Bay, Cascade Theatre, Riverfront Playhouse, DRBA, and the City of Redding.

In 2007, we established a donor-advised fund administered by the Shasta Regional Community Foundation to support and subsidize public art in the downtown Redding area.

A visioning session to discuss public art in the downtown plaza was held in May and proceeds from the 2007 Renaissance Redding Annual High Tea seeded the SRCF fund.  Long-time Renaissance Redding member, Kathy Jenkins, championed the visioning session and the idea of art in the downtown plaza.

The 2008 tea “Jazz it Up” was held in Kathy’s memory and proceeds benefited the art in the downtown plaza project.  In August of 2008 Renaissance Redding, with support from the Redding Redevelopment Agency and downtown Redding stakeholders, issued a call to artists for a public art project to be located in the downtown plaza area.  53 artists, both local and from all corners of the United States, responded with intriguing proposals.

The artist / design team selected, Urban Rock, will begin installation in May or June 2009.
The Renaissance Redding High Tea has become a spring tradition.  This year’s tea will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2009 at the Holiday Inn in Redding.  With the theme, The Play’s the Thing, proceeds from the tea will support the Riverfront Playhouse.

For 28 years this all-volunteer organization has provided wonderful community theatre for our enjoyment.  Riverfront is in its third year of a capital campaign to move the theatre to a new 184-seat state-of-the-art facility at the corner of Pine and Placer Streets, creating a theatre district in downtown Redding.  The property is in escrow and architectural plans have been drawn.  This new theatre will benefit the entire community by providing more productions and a venue for other performing arts groups, films, and events.

In addition to the tea, Renaissance Redding has several exciting events planned each year.  We have a holiday fundraiser in November, sponsor the Cultural Cruise reception at Old City Hall in January, support the Turtle Bay Auction in March.

We also hold a membership social in December.  Anyone interested in becoming a member of Renaissance Redding is welcome to attend and learn more about what Renaissance Redding has accomplished and our plans for the future.

Board meetings are held monthly and all members are welcome to attend.  For additional information call 245-4600 or 243-3557.
