Respect, Representation and Responsibility
Viva Downtown – Adopted 2022
Viva Downtown is committed to fostering a welcoming, inclusive, and equitable organization that
reflects and serves the full diversity of Downtown Redding and the surrounding community.
Diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility are essential to effective, people-centered
downtown revitalization and to the long-term success of the Main Street program.
Viva Downtown recognizes that equitable participation and shared leadership strengthen
organizational decision-making, community trust, and program impact.
Inclusive Participation
Viva Downtown maintains open, transparent pathways for all volunteer participation,
supported by clear role descriptions and intentional outreach that encourages
involvement from historically underrepresented individuals and groups.
Equitable and Accessible Engagement
Viva Downtown designs programs, meetings, and volunteer opportunities to reduce
barriers to participation by considering accessibility, timing, location, and flexibility, and
will prioritize ADA-accessible venues and reasonable accommodations upon request
whenever feasible.
Respectful Organizational Culture
Viva Downtown expects staff, Board members, volunteers, and partners to engage in a
respectful, collaborative, and inclusive manner. Discrimination or exclusion based on
race, ethnicity, gender, age, disability, sexual orientation, religion, socioeconomic status,
or background is not tolerated.
Inclusive Programming and Storytelling
Viva Downtown will strive to ensure that its programs, partnerships, and communications
reflect and celebrate the diverse people, histories, cultures, and businesses of
Downtown Redding, including voices and stories that have historically been
underrepresented.
Learning, Accountability, and Continuous Improvement
Viva Downtown will regularly reflect on participation and engagement to identify gaps
and opportunities for broader inclusion, and will use community feedback to inform
improvements to outreach, onboarding, and program design.
